A dramatic wildlife rescue in New Jersey is warming hearts after firefighters worked together to save a young deer trapped in a metal fence during severe storm conditions.
The rescue happened as a powerful nor’easter brought heavy rain, wind and flooding to parts of the state.
Firefighters from local Middletown Township companies were called after the young doe became stuck between sections of metal fencing.
Rescuers quickly realized that simply pulling the animal free could cause further injury.
Instead, firefighters carefully positioned themselves around the deer and used specialized cutting equipment to create enough space for her to escape.
During the operation, crews reportedly covered the deer with a blanket to protect her from sparks and flying debris while the metal fence was being cut.
Despite the stressful situation, firefighters managed to complete the rescue without seriously injuring the animal.
Once enough of the fence had been removed, the young deer was released.
She quickly ran away from the scene, apparently unharmed.
