In May 2023, Joana’s relatives gathered in rural Itiruçu, Bahia, Brazil, to celebrate another year of her life.
They chose a Barbie-style theme because Joana loves the color pink and dolls.
Then one family member had an idea.
Build her a giant doll box.
So they created a bright pink display personalized with Joana’s nickname:
Dinha.
Joana dressed in pink, stepped inside, and posed for photos surrounded by pink-and-gold balloons.
She loved it.
In a family video, she joked that they had put her “inside the little box” and that she ended up looking like a Barbie.
The celebration also included a pink cake, and according to her family, Joana insisted on cutting it herself and handing slices to the guests.
Birthdays were already a family tradition.
Her relatives said they celebrated with her every year, and Joana was already talking about the next one.
She wanted everyone back for 108.
