An Army Colonel Stopped a Flight After Twins Were Abandoned at O’Hare-olive

I watched a woman walk away from two five-year-old twins at O’Hare without one glance back. No hug. No goodbye.

She did not see the Army colonel standing less than fifty feet away, or realize that I had already made a decision.

Major Marco Hayes and I had just returned from an official assignment and were crossing the terminal toward the military VIP lounge when the woman hurried past us in a beige coat, pulling a designer suitcase.
