He had hip dysplasia, and climbing stairs was no longer an easy part of everyday life. For an elderly dog dealing with painful hips, following his family between floors had become a challenge.
His family found another way.
During renovations to their South Carolina home, the family installed a small residential elevator.
The elevator wasn’t originally created exclusively for Jackson. It was installed so the homeowners would also be able to move more easily between floors as they grew older.
But in the meantime, it became perfect for their beloved senior Labrador. ❤️
Videos shared by family member Logan showed Jackson calmly sitting inside the transparent tube-shaped elevator as it carried him between floors.
Instead of struggling with the stairs, Jackson could ride.
Instead of being left behind downstairs, he could continue spending time near his family.
And according to Logan, Jackson wasn’t frightened of his unusual ride.
After some viewers wondered whether the dog was scared inside the elevator, she explained that he actually loved using it and would readily get inside.
The videos quickly touched people online.
But perhaps the reason Jackson’s story resonated with so many people had little to do with the elevator itself.
It was about what the elevator represented.
For years, Jackson had adjusted his life around his family.
When age finally made that difficult, his family adjusted their home so he could remain close to them.
Dogs don’t ask for expensive things.
They don’t care what kind of house we live in or what car we drive.
For many of them, simply being beside the people they love is enough.
Jackson’s family understood that.
And during his senior years, a little elevator helped make sure that painful stairs didn’t keep him away from his favorite people.
Sometimes love isn’t expressed with words.
