But behind Dolly’s remarkable success is another story — the story of the large Parton family that shaped the woman she would eventually become.
Dolly was one of 12 children born to Robert Lee Parton Sr. and Avie Lee Owens Parton. The family grew up with very little money in rural East Tennessee, surrounded by the mountains, music, faith, and one another.
Among those 12 children was Bobby Lee Parton, one of Dolly’s brothers.
