More Than 20 Million Medicare Enrollees Set to Receive One-Time $90 Payment

Millions of Americans enrolled in Medicare are set to receive some extra financial help this October.

President Donald Trump announced that the federal government will send a one-time $90 payment to more than 20 million Medicare enrollees, aimed at helping offset the cost of monthly medical insurance premiums. (Reuters)

According to information reported by Reuters, the money is expected to come from the Medicare

Improvement Fund, which Congress funded with approximately $2 billion.

For many eligible seniors, no additional action

may be necessary. Most recipients are expected to

receive the $90 through direct deposit in early

October. Those who do not have direct deposit set

up are expected to receive a check at the mailing address registered with Medicare. (Reuters)

While $90 may not seem like a huge amount, even a modest payment can make a difference for retirees

living on fixed incomes, especially as households

continue to manage expenses including groceries,

prescriptions, utilities, housing, and healthcare.

Seniors should be cautious of scams connected to government payments. Medicare beneficiaries should

never give personal banking information, Social Security numbers, or Medicare numbers to unexpected callers claiming they need the information to release a payment.

The announcement affects more than 20 million Americans, making it an important Medicare development for seniors and their families to follow this month.
