Everyone around us assumed we\u2019d eventually fall in love, but we always insisted we were just friends.<\/p>\n<p>The truth was more complicated.<\/p>\n<p>I was terrified that admitting my feelings would destroy the friendship that meant more to me than anything.<\/p>\n<p>Then Jeffrey went away to college.<\/p>\n<p>At first, we wrote constantly.
