I get to laugh. I get to feel useful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those simple words stayed with everyone who heard them.<\/p>\n<p>For many older Americans, his story reflects something deeper than work.<\/p>\n<p>It is about purpose.<\/p>\n<p>It is about connection.<\/p>\n<p>And it is about waking up each morning knowing that someone may be happy to see you.<\/p>\n<p>He does not think of himself as inspirational.<\/p>\n<p>He simply believes that as long as his health allows it and he still enjoys being there, there is no reason to stop doing something that brings meaning to his days.<\/p>\n<p>Some customers now visit the diner just to say hello.<\/p>\n<p>Others have shared that his attitude reminds them of their own parents and grandparents \u2014 people who believed in hard work, routine, friendship, and never giving up on life.<\/p>\n<p>At 91, he may move a little slower than he once did.<\/p>\n<p>But his smile is still there.<\/p>\n<p>His place behind the counter is still waiting for him.<\/p>\n<p>And tomorrow morning, he plans to show up again.<\/p>\n<p>Because for him, work is no longer about earning a paycheck.<\/p>\n<p>It is about having somewhere to belong.<\/p>\n<p>Would you still work at 91 if you loved what you did?
